One step more towards the final assembly of the BLADE (Breakthrough Laminar Aircraft Demonstrator in Europe) demonstrator

The month of July was extremely fruitful for the BLADE project with two major milestones successfully achieved:

1. AERNNOVA completed on the 15th July in Berentevilla (Spain) the assembly of two Laminar wings composed of:

  • On the Left Hand NLF External BLADE Wing, the SAAB integral composite leading edge and upper cover enables the reduction of AERNNOVA assembly working hours with less fasteners connection and penetrations into the Laminar Upper Cover;
  • On the Right Hand NLF External BLADE Wing, the GKN separated composite leading edge and upper cover has been adjusted by AERNNOVA with best fit practices.

2. ROMAERO together with Dassault, INCAS, Romaero and AEROMAC-Aernnova group  completed on the 20th July in Bucharest (Romania) the manufacturing for both wings of the Aerofairing and the Transition Structure Leading Edge. The Wing Tip Pod and Transition Structure Trailing Edge have been respectively delivered to Aernnova and Airbus on last 25th of May.

3. In parallel, the Aircraft Working Party has started in April and a major step has been completed with the removal of the two wings, facilitated with the jig platforms, staging and operational tooling designed and manufactured by partners ARITEX & EURECAT.

The different components have been shipped to Airbus for final Assembly on the A340 Blade demonstrator, with the objective to perform and demonstrate the benefits of the laminarity in 2017.
