Greener Aviation 2016 highlights

The Greener Aviation 2016 conference on achievements and perspectives in Clean Sky and worldwide, organised by 3AF with the support of the Clean Sky Joint Undertaking and the Council of European Aeronautical Societies (CEAS) draws to a close for another year. The event took place over three days (11th to 13th October) with over 300 participants in attendance and more than 100 papers submitted from an array of contributors: industry, research centres and academia.

The opening plenary session began with an engaging address from Ric Parker (Chairman of the Governing Board at Clean Sky) who outlined the Clean Sky programme, along with keynote speeches from Robert-Jan Smits (General Director within DG Research and Innovation at the European Commission), amongst others. In addition to numerous roundtables, such as: ‘The Atmospheric Impact of Aviation’ moderated by Giuseppe Pagnano (Coordinating Project Officer).

Over the course of the conference programme, delegates were able to attend technical sessions throughout the three-day event. For instance, of particular interest were those chaired by Clean Sky Project Officers such as Materials and Ecodesign 4, Structures 2 and Green and safe systems and operations, along with a roundtable contribution from Ron van Manen (Clean Sky 2 Programme Manager) on Airlines and airports point of view on disruptive configurations and operations.

The event was very insightful, bringing together a wide variety of entities under one roof once again to discuss the opportunities and challenges with regard to greening aviation.
